Spring/Summer 2019: Wedding Trends
This blog post was originally written by Madeleine Villa.
Calling all engaged couples, Henkaa’s Spring/Summer 2019 wedding trend report is here!
With our almost 10 years in the bridal industry, we thought we would give you a heads up on all the juicy trends for this upcoming wedding season.
Colour Trend: Living Coral
For 2019, Pantone dubbed the queen of colours: Living Coral. Described eloquently as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”
Since 2000, colour connoisseur Pantone has picked a colour of the year. You may remember that last years winner was Ultra Violet - a deep purple, with a bright undertone reminiscent of the night sky.
Apricot Coral is one of the five colours we decided to showcase in our Spring/Summer 2019 collection. Apricot coral -lighter than Living Coral, is a great addition to a monochromatic colour scheme, pair it with Neutral Champagne or Dusty Rose to get the look!
Or for a contrasting colour palette pair it with Mint Green, Silver Grey or both!
Coral in decor has been highlighted in the floral, stationery and deserts.
Overall, we expect weddings to be more colourful for 2019 - ditching the rigid two-tone colour palette.
Decor Trend: Bringing the Outdoors In
2018 saw a surge of outdoor-inspired wedding decor, mainly in the form of living table runners, foliage photo backdrops and over the top bouquets.
The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about wedding floral trends for 2019 is Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s over-the-top flower arch.
We took this and ran, Narbail Designs created a stunning floral statement piece perfect for a bride who wants to feel like royalty but may not have the royal funds.
As for the green table runners, this may be on its way out. In favor of something more subtle - and less in the way of hungry guests! We opted for floral touches to highlight the other table decor rather than making it the full focus.
We also used florals as living jewelry. A great idea for a bride looking for something unique to add to her look.
Bridal Trend: Simple Sophistication
There is no doubt that the royal weddings of Dutchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, as well as Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, will have an immense hold over the wedding trends for 2019.
Both Meghan's Givenchy full-sleeve ceremony gown and her Stella McCartney High-neck reception dress sent shockwaves through the wedding industry. We saw a huge increase in our Pure Ivory Iris Maxi wedding dress after this wedding and even showed you all how to recreate the Meghan Markle's wedding style!
Henkaa convertible wedding dresses are simple in nature. Our signature four-way stretch Lenaa™ fabric has a delicate sheen perfect for that royal wedding look! We opted for an off the shoulder style - now popular because of Meghan, and kept the accessories to a minimum.
Our wedding dresses are affordable and plus positive -fitting up to a street size 24, making them a great choice for all brides desiring a simple yet sophisticated wedding dress.
Venue Trend: Non-Traditional and Interactive
Banquet halls are a great option to host your big day. However, couples are opting for more engaging event spaces such as rooftops, industrial spaces, greenhouses, theatres, galleries, and breweries!
It’s really no surprise in this 'personal wedding hashtag' world we live in! Guests want to share the night with all their followers on Instagram stories. A reception hall, although beneficial in its own ways, doesn’t scream #instaworthy.
For our Spring/Summer 2019 photoshoot we decided to shoot our wedding at Country Heritage Park in Milton, ON. This park features a ‘pioneer village’ reminiscent of the early 19th century. In fact, the house we shot in front of was the set for Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables released in 2016!
While a location like this may not be everyone’s cup of tea for their big day, it would be great for unique wedding photos.… We even found donkeys, talk about a natural photo backdrop!
Bridesmaid Trend: All That Shimmers
Chances are if you have a Pinterest account and have been actively pin-planning your wedding, you have seen sequins galore!
Sequin table cloths, curtains, chair coverings, and dresses - this trend has dominated our feed and hopefully yours too. With this growth in everything sequin, we thought we would get in on the action.
Meet our new Rose Gold Sequin Skirt, we have paired ours with the Neutral Champagne Sakura Maxi. However, you could wear it with many other colours such as Pure Ivory, Dusty Rose, or Apricot Coral!
Whether it’s a special something for the maid of honor or a little glitz for the entire bridal party, we can definitely say sequin skirts/dresses will be everywhere in 2019.
Another trend continuing for bridesmaids in 2019 is off the shoulder dresses - a stunning and tasteful way to show some skin.
Lastly, we have been seeing mix-and-match bridal parties in 2018, and we expect this to continue the momentum in 2019. This trend is a great way to let your bridesmaids show their unique personalities!
