Michelle and Kyle had a cozy winter wedding featuring a cool colour palette and The Rocky Mountains as their very own photo background!
Tell us a little about how you both met...
I’m a teacher for the Edmonton catholic school district, and Kyle is a truck driver. We met about 10 years ago at the Outback Steakhouse. I was a server/bartender there and Kyle's best friend was the line cook.
We started hanging out for awhile with our close group of friends (who all also worked at the outback). Eventually, after nights out with friends, we began texting until Kyle asked me out on our first official date. Nothing special, just drinks at a pub. But from then on, our relationship blossomed into more, and 6 years later, he proposed!
Tell us all about the proposal!
Kyle proposed! I was home from work for a few days because I was extremely sick! After being home on bed rest for what felt like forever, I decided to get up and go out to run a few errands. It also happened to be my sisters birthday that same day so I went out to buy her a gift.
Afterwards, I started feeling sick again so I decided to go home. As soon as I entered the house, the first things I see are Kyle bent down on one knee and a wooden sign on the floor that said “Will You Marry My Dad.” The sign was supposed to be worn around our dog’s neck but he refused to wear it and instead he ran up the stairs and decided to chew on his little bow tie that he was wearing!! So I looked at the sign and back at Kyle who was still down on one knee and all Kyle could say was “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t wait.” I instantly dropped all of my shopping on the ground, ran up to him, and said “YES”
When and where was your wedding?
It was at the Cornerstone Theatre in Canmore, Alberta on April 14, 2018.
Tell us about the big day and how it all came together
My day started very early with hair and makeup at 5:30 am. Our ceremony started at 1:00 pm and reception at 5:30 pm. Our pictures were taken at Quarry Lake with a beautiful mountain background. Although the weather was awful and freezing cold, the pictures were worth it.
The staff at Cornerstone Theatre made sure all of the decor was impeccable and the service throughout the entire day and night was amazing. I can honestly say there weren’t any big hiccups at all that day. Everything turned out to be beautiful.
Can you recall your favourite moment from the day?
My most memorable detail was all of the rustic decor that came together. One of my best friends @TheGrapefruitCreative made all of my beautiful wooden signs. Cornerstone staff made sure they all went up so every guest could see them. The decor and how everything looked put together was definitely my most favourite part of the day!
Why did you choose Henkaa for your bridesmaids dresses?
I had a VERY large bridal party. 11 bridesmaids. Yup. 11. I couldn’t choose between my 5 best friend’s in the world and my 6 cousins who were all like sisters to me. So I decided to choose them all. My wedding, so why not!
Because I had 11 bridesmaids I wanted something that would work for all body types as they were all different sizes. I also loved how it was convertible and the girls got to be creative and style each of their dresses to match their personality. Henkaa met all of my dress requirements so I knew it was the one I had to pick.
The ordering online was also incredibly easy and the shipping was quick! At one point I ordered the wrong colour but I was able to contact someone and they replied right away and fixed it up for me. All in all, it was a great decision and the dresses looked amazing on all my girls.
