Real Weddings: Jezelle + Jarett
This stunning, classic wedding in the Canadian mountains will surely take your breath away. Check out Jezelle and Jarett’s story for wedding ideas and inspiration.
Despite working in two completely different industries, Jezelle and Jarett’s love for hockey ended up being what brought them together! They were married on September 10, 2016 at the gorgeous Delta Lodge at Kananaskis in Alberta.
From the bride:
I work as a Pediatric Emergency Registered Nurse at a local children’s hospital. Jarett is a successful realtor who owns a local branch of Realty Executives as well as a rental property management company. We met when we kept bumping into each other at a local sports bar cheering for our favourite hockey team – the Edmonton Oilers. It took Jarett three tries to get my number but when he finally did, we texted daily for a month before going on our first date – watching an Oilers hockey game, of course! Our love of sports, traveling, and family and friends is definitely what brought us together.
Jarett originally planned a romantic proposal December 2014 while going on a hike with our dogs. Everything was set: we both got the time off work, the mountain cabin was booked, and the ring was purchased and safely secured – or so Jarett thought. Three weeks earlier, I found our then mischievous 6-month old puppy chewing on a blue “Tacori” box! I knew what “Tacori” was so I got excited and panicked at the same time. I quickly put the box on the kitchen counter (without peaking, I promise!) and tried to pretend nothing happened.
When Jarett saw the box wasn’t where it was supposed to be, he asked me some questions but I just couldn’t hide my smile. He debated whether or not to stick with his original plan but by the end of the night, he decided to follow our dog’s “prompting” and got down on one knee, told me how I was his best friend (from what I remembered before I started tearing up) and asked me to marry him. It ended up being the perfect timing because we spent the rest of December celebrating our engagement during the holidays with our family and friends.
I was one of those girls who had been dreaming of her wedding since she was a little girl. I grew up perusing through wedding magazines and hoping one day to have my own. We both envisioned a classy and elegant wedding. The mountains of Kananaskis, Alberta are so majestic that we kept it simple with decorations to let the beauty of the mountains shine on their own. We had an outdoor ceremony with a beautiful mountain background and held a romantic tent reception under the stars.
I cant even put into words how perfect our wedding was! Even Mother Nature co-operated by giving us great weather and waited until the next day for it to snow! We were engaged for a year and a half and that really helped give us plenty of time to have things ready. We also had the best team of wedding coordinators and vendors that we could’ve asked for that helped bring our dream wedding to life.
I always hear that the day goes by too fast and even though it seemed like it, I just remember enjoying every single moment of it – from the moment I woke up, to singing Britney Spears with my girls while getting ready, to reading each other our personal vows, to seeing the dance floor jam-packed at the end of the night. We both deeply felt everyone’s love for us that we couldn’t help but tear up during our thank you speech. It was the wedding I’ve always dreamed of!
One of the most memorable details that day was that our dogs were a part of our wedding party. Lola was our flower girl and Hendrix (our mischievous puppy who found the box) was our ring bearer. I didn’t see them all morning because they got ready in Jarett’s room. When I was walking down the aisle, Hendrix stood up and started barking as if to call out, “Mom!”. It was such a cute and funny moment cause he looked so excited to see me!
I chose Henkaa for my bridesmaids because I’ve been a bridesmaid before and I swore that if I were to get married, I wouldn’t make my girls spend a ton of money on a dress that they would never wear again. The Sakura Convertible Dress was perfect because it allowed all of my girlfriends to style each of their dresses in a way that best flattered each of their bodies. They could wear the dress one style in the morning and style it a different way for the reception at night! We also loved that it was wrinkle resistant, and that it was made in Canada.
