Designers often have Fashion Shows as a means to provide exposure, display new and upcoming pieces within their line, and to get the crowd excited for their product.  What better way to show off the versatility of Henkaa’s ConvertiStyle™ garments and accessories then to showcase them down the runway or in a beautifully curated shoot! Our main objective is to amaze the audience with the many styles and ways our apparel can be worn and to get Henkaa’s name out there - in a fun and exciting way.

A huge part of Fashion Shows or even Styled Shoots, is knowing which dress styles and colours work and what styles look best.  We’re here to help you with some styling tips that we’ve built over the years - take a look and let us know if you have any style secrets!

Tips, tricks, and things to remember when preparing the dresses & accessories

  • Try to make sure all items from our product line are featured in each scene (chiffon overlays, brooches in all sizes, bandeaus, sashes, styling clips, necklaces)
  • Aim for diversity in colors (evening/trendy scenes). Mix light and dark shades. We don’t need to feature our HOT colors (plum purple) because they sell themselves
  • Try to feature colors that are currently in style or on trend, we have excessive stock of, we don’t have previous pictures of on the runway, and are new arrivals
  • Keep in mind the model’s skin tone and hair color. Choose colors that would complement or enhance her complexion
  • A model will typically wear at least 3 - 5 inch heels, so you must take this into account when choosing a maxi dress for a model
  • Do not put a Maxi on a model that is over 5’11”
  • Make sure the Mini is long enough to be modest on the Flower Girl. If she is older than 8, consider using a Midi

Tips, tricks, and things to remember when choosing styles and looks

  • Try to diversify all the styles (both front and back) and include our “5 Core Styles”
    • strapless sweetheart
    • one sided
    • halter
    • a reverse style that covers the back
    • portrait or sleeved style
    • double strap or cap sleeve style
  • Try to match the style to the model’s body shape and bra requirements
    • i.e. big chested girl should not be wearing cap sleeve or "uni-boob" styles like halters or one shoulder
    • i.e. big chested girl would benefit from a bandeau
    • i.e. mid-chested (size B) girls suit sweetheart styles the best
    • i.e. small chested girls look best in styles with defined chest areas such as Lola twisted spaghetti strap, cap sleeve (knotted or w/ brooches)
  • Use a modest style on the Flower Girl to make her as covered as possible
  • Always put in the Victoria (portrait sleeve) or one of the more conservative styles.  There may be people in the audience of a more modest demographic, so we need to make sure there is at least 1 or 2 conservative styles to pique their interest!
  • When models are going down in sets, try to coordinate the colors by color-blocking with accessories.  i.e. for 2 models, make one wear a sash or bandeau in the opposite color
  • For more clarity and to help out the stylist, use the actual name of the style to be more specific and make note of any modifications
  • Try to have at least one style with the knot tied in the front - not everyone has enough fabric to go around the waist once and tie in the back! (one sided is a good style for this)
  • Keep in mind that the model may not have the appropriate bra to wear for the style chosen.  Most cases they will have a strapless bra.  In this case, either make sure there is a bandeau available with the style or an Infinity Freebra

Accessories to Pack

  • Bring a pack of Styling Tape
  • Bring 2 to 3 Infinity Bras just in case (a mix of size B and C)
  • Bring 1 or 2 back-up dresses (maybe one Midi and one Maxi) in case you have to make a change on anything (i.e. the colors clash, a dress is too short/long for a model, etc.)
  • A portable Steamer

An important rule when styling, have a blast! Let your creativity flow and utilize your Henkaa expertise to put on an awesome show.
